“Howdy Folks! Welcome to Golden, where the west RUNS!”

Okay, so the greeting on Golden’s famous welcome arch doesn’t quite say that - ‘Where the West Lives’ are the real words - but ‘Where the West Runs’ would be just as appropriate come early fall...

On Sunday, October 7th Golden’s biggest annual race will explode into galloping motion for the seventh year running. Starting for the first time beneath the City’s famous ‘Welcome’ arch, right in the center of historic downtown Golden, and finishing in leafy Parfet Park besides gushing Clear Creek, the Golden Gallop will lead its runners on a brand-new loop, covering a unique new distance, 5.280 miles at mile high altitude.

Elite runners will be racing for prize money, brave first-timers will be competing for more personal rewards, school kids will be challenging their friends, neighbor will be running in friendship with neighbor, and by taking part all will be contributing to the race beneficiary, the Golden Schools Foundation.

The 2012 Golden Gallop is sure to be a one-of-a-kind race in a one-of-a-kind town. Will you be there, running where the west runs?
